Sunday Snapshot: Of Craft Studio Cats and Springtime Allergies

Sunday Snapshot: Of Craft Studio Cats and Springtime Allergies

The cats have taken over the craft studio and springtime allergies have taken over my brain. (Ugh. Blooming trees sure are pretty and all, but COME ON. I’m ready to stop feeling like my face might fall off.)

Luckily, pretty much all I’m doing at the moment is cross-stitching, which requires relatively little movement and/or brain power. (Did you hear? I’m writing a cross-stitch book!) So, thus far, most screw up-related stitch removal and its accompanying creative swearing has been kept to a minimum.

Right now, I’m wrapping up a quiet Sunday and getting excited for the creative plans I have scheduled in the coming week. Tree pollen permitting, there’s a whole lot of fun in the works!

I hope you’re all getting ready to have a great week too! And, if you’re also on Team Ugh My Sinuses, try not to let those histamines get you down. xoxo

Sunday Snapshot: A Fun Fox Tote Bag to Kick Off 2015

Sunday Snapshot: A Fun Fox Tote Bag to Kick Off 2015 | The Zen of Making

On Friday, my pal Rachel and I kicked off the first weekend of the new year with a tote bag-making party, and I stitched up this fancy canvas fox tote! (Okay, the fox fabric is fancy—the tote bag was actually ridiculously easy to sew.)

I think it’s a pretty good sign for the coming year that my first finished project of 2015 was something that I made just for fun, don’t you?

Note: Just in case you’re dying to sew a fox tote of your own, the fabric is Foxsimilies from Charley Harper’s NURTURE Canvas collection from Birch Fabrics.

Sunday Snapshot: Crafty Forensics with Tailor’s Chalk

Sunday Snapshot: Crafty Forensics with Tailor's Chalk | The Zen of Making

This week, I learned that, if you have a razor blade and some patience, you totally can dust for fingerprints with powder scraped from tailor’s chalk. (Actually, I used a razor-edge seam ripper, but same difference.)

I also learned that I’m friends with exactly the right people, as none of them were even remotely surprised when I MacGyvered up said crafty latent print action.

The fingerprint in question.

(Full disclosure: My dad is a police officer, so this isn’t exactly a random skill. I grew up knowing how to dust for prints.)

On a somewhat related subject: I also accidentally created the first of what may become a series of craft-related murder mystery art photos. (I didn’t *mean* to look dead in the picture, but, well, there you have it.)

So, uh, do you think that maybe my subconscious and/or the universe is trying to tell me to write a craft-related cozy mystery series? Because it kind of seems that way to me.
